Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be played in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your home computer, using a net connection. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the highest mixture of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless here.
The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will be "dealt" on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and players will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, whether it is all or none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any new cards will be needed they will be given out. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can change from game to game, so that discerning gamblers are able to choose the most beneficial game every instance.
As soon as the first round has completed, the player can either decide to continue on and try to to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, several styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their winnings, in which instance a further round is played. There are also differences among individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
