Video Poker is a popular game that can be gambled on in casinos around the world, or in your house on your home computer, using an Internet connection. The regulations are very simple and consist of the player attempting to get the best mixture of cards possible in order to come away with cash. On this account it is much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with other players. Of course, methods used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has chosen which cards he or she would like to keep, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards will be handed out if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced bettors are agile enough to select the most profitable machine each and every instance.

After the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that might been won. Further, several versions of the game allow the bettor an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case a further round is played. There are also differences among specific machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
